Accelerated Reader Program
We have begun the Accelerated Reader Program. The Accelerated Reader (AR) Program is a reading program to enhance reading comprehension. The students select a book, read it and take a multiple choice comprehension test on the computer. As your child takes a test he/she will earn points according to his/her grade on the test. Each book is usually worth ½ point or .5. I will read some of the books during class and students can also take tests on the books I have read aloud to them. Each Friday your child will bring home an AR book to begin reading during the weekend. You may already have some AR books at home, too. After the book has been read two times, please send the book to school and I will let your child take a test as time allows. As tests are taken and passed, I will add a segment to your child’s bookworm that is displayed on a bulletin board in our classroom. When 20 segments have been earned, we will celebrate your child’s success! Since this is an extra reading program, it will be your child’s responsibility to read a book and ask to take a test independently. Students love the AR program and want to take a test. This program will enhance your child’s love for reading. I hope you enjoy listening to your child read. If you would like to know if books you have at home are AR books, you may go to arbookfind.com
Math-Houghton Mifflin
It is an elementary level mathematics curriculum geared towards every level of learning with focused lessons, rich problem solving, and real world connections, providing resources for a new generation of math learners. It also helps students to become fluent in math vocabulary.
