Classroom Discipline Plan: The classroom discipline plan contains a set of rules and expectations that are used in the classroom. This plan will be reviewed on the first day of school and reinforced throughout the school year.
Our CLASSROOM “STAR” RULES are as follows: Safe: I will keep my hands and feet to myself. I will stay in my assigned area. Thoughtful: I will use kind words and encourage others. I will raise my hand to speak. Accountable: I will follow directions the first time they are given. I will pay attention to the person speaking. I will be prepared to learn each day. Respectful: I will respect myself and others. I will use class materials appropriately. The above STAR rules will be taught and followed each day. It is my philosophy that all my students can behave appropriately in our classroom. It is my hope that early intervention from both teacher and parents will build success for your child. We will be working as a team of friends to follow these rules and earn class rewards, so it is important that each child do his/her very best each day. Additional rewards for positive behavior throughout the week will include verbal praise, stickers, treats, and the chance to become “STAR Student of the Week”. If a student breaks the rules the following steps will be taken: 1st time a student breaks a rule – verbal warning 2nd time: 5 minutes off of recess – name change to yellow 3rd time: 10 minutes off of recess – name change to orange 4th time: 15 minutes off of recess, note or phone call home to parent – name change to red 5th time or severe: No recess, phone call or note home, Office Referral
Colors: I use a color system in my classroom. I have found this system to be very effective because it has several levels of warnings for behavior while also allowing for students to work towards a higher color. I have listed the basic outline of my chart below: Pink: Outstanding Purple: Great Job Blue: Good Day Green: Ready to Learn-All students begin the day on this color Yellow: Think About It Orange: Teacher’s Choice Red: Parent Contact
How it works: Each day all children start on green – ready to learn. If a child is misbehaving, I move his/her name to yellow, orange or red. I save red for major offenses or repeated offenses. If a child is behaving very well, I move his/her name from green, to blue, purple or pink.
